The Côtes du Ventoux and Muscatel vineyards are more than 2000 years old and the wines were awarded A.O.C status (“appellation d'origine contrôlée” - with a guarantee of origin) on 27/07/1973. The private cellars and the wine co-operatives will be delighted to welcome you to their cellars for wine tasting. Muscat-du-Ventoux, made from a well-reputed grape, was granted the AOC award in 1997. The Carpentras strawberry is a juicy and fruity number, four varieties are grown : Pajaro, Ciroflette, Cigoulette and Garriguette. The cherry: Burlat, Summit, Belgian and Duroni constitute the four main varieties harvested from May to July throughout the Comtat. Thanks to its exceptional soil and the knowledge and know-how of the local producers, the Monts de Venasque cherry was voted number one amongst French top-of-the-range cherries. The olive-tree : a tree of many virtues has a privileged place in every local’s heart and is much admired by passing tourists. Its oil is used in Mediterranean cuisine : there are so many varieties of olive oils, so many different and subtle flavours… The truffle, known as “rabasse” in Provencal, is collected in Carpentras or on the Ventoux terrasses from November through to mid-March. Truffle markets attract many renowned chefs. Sweetened treasures
Spelt : a primitive cereal, Gallic wheat (perhaps emanating from medieval times) is harvested on the Plateau de Sault. Its flavour and nutritional qualities have become fashionable and have become prominent on many a top chef's menu within the last decade. Goat cheese : nourished in the Ventoux hills, these goats provide a deliciously scented milk, a mixture of all the pastures and aromatic plants of the area, which then produces this delectable cheese. Lavender : Symbol of Provence, lavender is the most popular aromatic plant. During the summer the fields turn a breathtakingly blue hue and radiate a truly wonderful scent. Aromatic plants: The majority are cultivated but others grow naturally on the slopes of Mont-Ventoux titilating your palate. Ventoux organic lamb and pork: due to such a protected and natural environment, the meat has a superior flavour. The climate and know-how passed down through the generations have brought fame to the butchers for more than a century.
