SAULT EN PROVENCE

A warm welcome and climate
Health and Tourist Resort : Altitude 766 metres

Sault, from Latin saltus - country of forests - was an important centre of prehistoric occupation from as far back as the Mousterian era until the more recent Neolithic age.

Before the Romans, the entire area was occupied by the Albici/Albiens or Albiques tribe, their name Alba meaning - white country – now "Country of Albion". This region unified with the Vaucluse department the 25/6/1793 and currently has approximately 1 200 inhabitants. An ideal spot for outdoor holidays and rural tourism.

Discover the authentic beauty of this area of Vaucluse where the brilliant gold of the cornfields mixes with the startling blue of the lavender fields.  A warm welcome awaits you from the local people…

Due to the quality and beauty of its vast landscapes, in 1992 Sault en Provence was elected by the Department of the Environment to be listed among the twenty best French sites to be classified as "World Inheritance" by UNESCO.

Its invigorating climate, recommended for relaxation, rest and outdoor sports offers a quality of life normally only dreamt of. During your stay the Montbrun-les-Bains health resort (only 11km away) will enable you to relax under the professional eye of particularly qualified personnel.

Old capital of the region, Sault en Provence, located on a rocky outcrop dominating Les Gorges de la Nesque, the valley which bears its name, is an ideal starting point for excursions to the Mont-Ventoux, Les Gorges de la Nesque, La Vallée du Toulourenc, Plateau d’Albion, the Lure mountain, the Luberon and other sites close to the Drôme and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

The communes of Saint-Christol-d’Albion, Monieux, Aurel and Saint Trinit make up the old county of Sault. Each one conceals its own church or chapel of Romanesque times and the vestiges of a rich past which you will discover whilst following a route bordered with fields of lavender, the colour and perfume of which will bring your senses alive.
