Mont-Ventoux is classified as a "biospheric reserve" by U.N.E.S.C.O  


The Ventoux is a representation of all Europe’s climates.
Thanks to this incredible mix of microclimates, the Ventoux boasts an astonishingly rich variety of flora and fauna which has led to the region being classified as a “biospheric reserve”
 

 


 


Flora :

Mont-Ventoux boasts more than 400 types of flora, more than 1000 plant varieties on five levels between 400 and 1900 metres.
Amongst the wild flower varieties you will discover along the paths, depending on the season : Greenland poppies, saxifrages, Spring Gentians, Martagon lilies, crimson and pale orchids, dwarf iris’, white alpine thistles...
It is strictly forbidden to pick these plants.

 

Fauna :

More than 120 bird species nest on Mont Ventoux.  It is also a home for a wide variety of larger mammals, some of which you will come across whilst walking in the forest or on the roads : wild boar, foxes, Corsican mouflons, elaphe, chamois, deer, hares...

 

Discover the remains of prehistoric bear in the Ventoux :

Speleologists discovered what are regarded as the most significant prehistoric bear remains in Europe.
The analyses carried out were a precious insight into what food resources were available in that era in the Ventoux.
